The Dirty Truth About Littering

The other day I received an email from David, owner of Cleaning Services Group in the UK. That’s the United Kingdom, if you didn’t know. He’s passionate about the disastrous effect littering has on our planet, and after reading his message I decided to help spread his message.

Did you know that three out of every four people have admitted to littering in the past five years? And people aged 18-34 are the most likely to litter? That’s shameful!

Did you know that research by National Geographic indicates that it would take 67 ships a full year to clean up just 1% of all litter at the bottom of the North Pacific Ocean? I didn’t either, and shudder to imagine how much junk is down there.

David wrote “It’s frightening to contemplate, but that’s the harsh reality that we have created for ourselves through our attitude to littering. Discovering these sort of statistics has really woken me up to the urgent need to take action, which begins by educating others as to the poisonous consequences of litter.” I couldn’t agree more, which is why I’m sharing his infographic.

There’s a lot of great information here, so be sure to read the whole thing!

For Heaven’s sake, don’t litter! Better yet – if you see litter on the ground, pick it up and throw it out! In the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal to be a little inconvenienced if it makes our world a better place. Seriously.

PS: I didn’t receive any benefit from this post except thanks from David and a good feeling inside from helping the Earth. If and when I publish a sponsored post I’ll let you know – promise!
