Day at the Beach

Grand Haven BeachI recently stumbled upon a beach poem that really stuck in my head. I thought of it while I was editing our beach photos and decided to post the poem instead of some witty or not so witty comments.

Of course then I had to find poems to go with our photos at the playground and our afternoon snack. Searching for just the right poem was so much fun I may start posting poems regularly. No, no, don’t worry; I mean other people’s poems, not mine! None of us wants me to try writing poetry, believe me.

Down to the Beach

by Sylvia Chidi

Grand Haven Beach - Down to the beach

Grand Haven Beach - Down to the beach
On a sunny day we go

Grand Haven Beach - Beach bags packed with sun screen lotions
Hands rubbing people’s backs in slow motion
Glistening oily bodies radiating with sensation

Grand Haven Beach - Down to the beach

Grand Haven Beach - Down to the beach
Where a chilly sea breeze blows

Grand Haven Beach - Let’s have some fun
In the red-hot sun

Grand Haven Beach - Down to the beach
Only there the ladies reveal saucy behinds
Whenever the raging sun is still kind

Grand Haven Beach - Down to the beach
As never-ceasing waves play across the shores
People happily play dreading any rainy downpour

Grand Haven Beach - Down to the beach
Where young lovers closely nestle

Grand Haven Beach - As sand creatures cause the sand to bristle
Seagulls gliding in the air with screams and whistles

Grand Haven Beach - Kids picking up shells and building stormy sand castles

Grand Haven Beach - Down to the beach
Where mostly good vibes flow

Grand Haven Beach - Down to the beach

Grand Haven Beach - We go whilst there is still sun without snow

The Playground

by Dr. Holly.

Grand Haven Beach - I love the playground – I feel so free,
To run around between the trees.

Grand Haven Beach - I can dance and I can shout.
I can prance and jump about.

Grand Haven Beach - I can swing the whole long day.
My feet touch the sky – Up, up, away!

Grand Haven Beach - I can climb – I never stop! –
Like a mountain lion straight to the top!

Grand Haven Beach - I can cross the monkey bars
Like an astronaut from star to star.

Grand Haven Beach - I can spin on the merry-go-round
Until I’m dizzy, then slow me down.

Fast Food

by Ethel Smith

Grand Haven Beach -
Why is fast food
so full of fat?
It’s usually junk,
and garbage at that.

Grand Haven Beach -
As it’s so naughty,
and we know it’s so bad,
why do we love it
and eat it like mad?
