I need a 12-step program!

I sit poised at the edge of my rocking chair, hear pounding, eyes searching the computer. My left hand is repeatedly pressing F5 to refresh the page, my right hand is poised over the mouse which has been carefully positioned where I think the “Add to Cart” button will magically appear. What is this prize I’m so desperately seeking? Nothing less than a lavender and green fitted diaper from one of my favorite places – Fluffymail.

I wasn’t planning to stalk today. I spent all week telling myself that I didn’t need to stalk. I didn’t have time to stalk. I couldn’t afford to stalk. As I sit here refreshing the chosen page, I try to convince myself to close the window and walk away. The diaper is too girly for my boys. I have another Fluffymail on the way. I’m using more all in ones and pockets instead of fitteds.

I just can’t walk away. I sit for an hour and a half, getting up briefly to pick up Isaiah and get him settled nursing as I resume my stalking. When he’s finished I hold him on my lap and he watches the computer screen, then looks at me as if to say “What’s so exciting, Mom?” I tell him “Look , it’s a pretty new diaper for you.” And I resume refreshing, refreshing, refreshing…

Suddenly the computer freezes! I stare, stricken, as nothing happens. My heart sinks – I just know the diaper will stock while I’m rebooting. But there’s no way around it, it has to be done. I shut the computer off and restart, reminding myself that I dont have time to stalk. I can’t afford to stalk. The diaper is too girly for my boys. I have another Fluffymail on the way. I’m using more all in ones and pockets instead of fitteds… It takes an eternity for the unresponsive program to shut down and the computer to turn itself off. While I’m waiting I watch the snow falling outside, and the neighbor across the street illegally snowblow his driveway into the street. An agonizing 5 minutes later I’m on my way to Fluffymail, telling myself that it’s too late, it must be gone already, it’s… it’s still there! Waiting for ME! Refresh, refresh, refresh…

A Mom can’t stare at a computer forever. Eventually Zach wakes from his nap, needing a diaper change and a snack. After finishing those tasks I ht F5 again – and the page is blank! The diaper is gone. Some other mama has a girly lavender and green fitted diaper on the way to her. I’m very disappointed, but remind myself that I dont have time to stalk. I can’t afford to stalk. The diaper is too girly for my boys. I have another Fluffymail on the way. I’m using more all in ones and pockets instead of fitteds…

And there’s always next time!
